Joint CoP Session: Valuing Community Through the Lens of Ecological Citizenship

14 October @ 10:00 AM11:30 AM

Communities are already delivering flood resilience, habitat stewardship, food growing and place-based climate work, but the systems that fund and evaluate it often prioritise money and efficiency, not resilience or relationships. In this presentation, Dr Amy Burnett will give an overview of her recent work to surface the hidden value communities are actively generating but that policy, planning and funding regimes often overlook, and that communities themselves struggle to easily articulate.

Amy will share the findings of her research and the tools she has developed to help practitioners and policymakers, with an invitation to collaborate. This includes further refining, testing and validating the findings, and collectively surfacing innovative and exciting ways to think about place stewardship, community value, and evidencing the right metrics for ecologically-sensitive, inclusive devolution at all scales.

Amy is a Research Fellow in Sustainable and Inclusive Enterprise at the Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity (LPIP Place Fellow); former British Academy Policy Innovation Fellow at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Civil Society and Youth Directorate; and Founder of Valuing Community.
