Impact
Discover examples and stories of how the Green Futures Network has supported its members, and the work of the University of Exeter.
The Green Futures Network exists to increase the impact of work that is already being done, by reframing, translating, and increasing accessibility. It also aims to better understand the potential impact of climate and environmental research and resources, through exploring emerging challenges and themes. These are some examples of impacts within the network that could be useful to others.
Green Jobs Report
In November 2021, the Green Futures Network hosted a Cornwall Green Jobs Summit, in collaboration with Friends of the Earth. The event aimed to break down existing contradictions and disagreement around what Green Jobs mean for employers, employees and young people. Guided by insights from Dr Joanie Willett from the Institute for Cornish Studies, the Summit explored what Green Jobs need to include in order to meet three key characteristics:
- Accessible and equitable for all;
- Supported by skills and training;
- Genuine environmental benefits.
Through facilitated discussion, the attendees collaborated on a new frame for how Green Jobs can respond to the challenges we face locally. This is now an open resource for all to use and share, titled ‘When we talk about Green Jobs, what are we talking about?’ covering six important issues to consider for councils, employers, educators and more:
- There is no agree definition of Green Jobs
- Green Jobs must be for One and All
- Not just Green Jobs, we need Green Careers
- Jobs are changing as Cornwall changes
- Making existing jobs greener
- We cannot achieve our ambitions without real Green Jobs
