SUMMARY:Positive Tipping Points Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Positive Tipping Points Community of Practice \n\nEach session will feature a case study of the PTP Toolkit being applied in practice\nWe will also work through a CoP member’s own context live\nAll are welcome\, whether you have used the PTP Toolkit before or not\n\nIn November’s session\, we will hear from Tara Bryer from The Connectives (and collaborator on the Positive Tipping Points Toolkit): \nWhen a school tips a community: enabling conditions in Moss Side \nSt Mary’s is a primary school in Moss Side\, Manchester\, a neighbourhood that has spent decades being told a story about itself by other people. Over a number of years\, the school set out to change that through a series of enabling conditions: children’s rights and pupil voice as the school’s building blocks\, restorative practice instead of punishment\, a leadership team willing to be courageous\, and a deliberate opening of the school’s doors to families\, faith groups\, the council and the community around it. \nThen something tipped. The way children\, parents and the wider community talked about themselves and their place changed\, quickly\, and it stayed changed. I was in the room doing engagement work when I recognised it as a positive social tipping point and the framework in practice. \nIn this session I’ll share the St Mary’s story\, the enabling conditions for change\, how the conditions for change accelerated\, and how I’m now turning it into a toolkit for other anchor institutions. Then I’d like your help with a live challenge. \nIf you are working with a live situation where you are applying the PTP framework to existing models then we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch if you would be interested in sharing your challenges during the session\, and receiving live coaching to support you with this from Tana and Peter. You can also complete this short form if you would like to express interest in sharing your story at a future session: https://forms.fillout.com/t/iyWfB4C5Hius \nTo join please email Peter at gfn@exeter.ac.uk. \nFind the Positive Tipping Points Toolkit at ptptoolkit.notion.site

SUMMARY:Adaptation Community of Practice: Local Adaptation Workshop Guide
DESCRIPTION:The Adaptation Community of Practice is open to all organisations across the UK that are working to develop their understanding of and engagement with adaptation. We hear from expert speakers\, test and feedback on new ideas and resources\, and collectively discuss how to implement the latest information into how we work individually and together. \nThe CoP acts a learning network and an action network\, providing a space for peer-support\, the exchange of information\, and increased co-ordination around a consistent approach to understanding\, communicating and implementing climate adaptation measures. \nThis opt-in session will focus on a new resource to support the delivery of local adaptation workshops\, building on the Local Climate Adaptation Tool (LCAT). \nTo join please email Peter at gfn@exeter.ac.uk.

SUMMARY:Climate Disagreement Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:In each session we will invite a CoP member to share their work\, and then explore how the different perspectives and knowledges we each hold can help us apply the ideas in the presentation in practice at different levels of scale – e.g. our specific work\, our personal experience\, the wider system. \nIn November’s session we will be exploring the methodology of Listening Exchanges\, a method to provide a safe space for people to connect on a human level when they disagree strongly\, that can lead to problem solving and collaboration between people who continue to disagree. It can also be used as a deep dive consultation tool. We’ll hear from CoP members Becks and Al who will share more including the results of a pilot project a couple of years ago that focussed on Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in Oxford. \nIf you would like to join the invitation list\, or share your work at a future session please contact Peter at gfn@exeter.ac.uk.

SUMMARY:Train-the-Trainer: Local Adaptation Workshop Guide
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use this free new resource to support conversations and planning on adaptation impacts and actions. \nThe new Local Adaptation Workshop Guide is a resource to support conversations\, develop plans and more on adaptation in your local area or organisation. \nThe Local Climate Adaptation Tool (LCAT) has been used across the UK to support better decision making on adaptation\, but it has also been used in many varied and unpredictable ways by organisations\, community groups\, and more. LCAT has a huge amount of information\, and may feel overwhelming\, or sometimes not relevant to your work and role in the adaptation system. \nThe Local Adaptation Workshop Guide is designed to support you to personalise how you use LCAT\, through activities that combine the peer reviewed research and structure of the tool with your own knowledge\, experience\, and motivations in talking about or taking action on adaptation. \nThis free and interactive workshop will guide you through the resource and its activities\, giving you the tools\, understanding\, and confidence\, to use them in your own context. \nYou can download the guide here\, which includes elements that can be printed at home or at work. \nFind out more and get your tickets via Eventbrite:

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Positive Tipping Points Community of Practice \n\nEach session will feature a case study of the PTP Toolkit being applied in practice\nWe will also work through a CoP member’s own context live\nAll are welcome\, whether you have used the PTP Toolkit before or not\n\nIn December’s session\, we will hear from Dr Steve Smith\, Research Fellow at the Global Systems Institute and Green Futures Solutions\, University of Exeter. \nSteve will go into detail on three examples from the recent Earthshot Prize playbook Positive Tipping Points: Accelerating system change which outlines 51 environmental solutions that can trigger rapid and transformative change to repair our planet within the next five years. \nSteve’s work has been at the forefront of the application of Positive Tipping Points in practice\, with organisations around the world. In this session we can learn from his experience of engaging businesses\, governments\, funders and other bodies with high level agency\, with the challenges of complex systems change. \nIf you are working with a live situation where you are applying the PTP framework to existing models then we would love to hear from you. SUMMARY:Climate Disagreement Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:Communities\, organisations\, and individuals are increasingly having to navigate the impacts of environmental change and the difficult decisions that come with adapting to such changes. Cutting across debates around land use change\, energy infrastructures\, nature recovery\, and other place-based interventions are themes of trust\, inequality\, inclusion\, (mis)information and the role of knowledge. Debates are becoming more visible\, more complex\, and more contested. \nBut rather than seeing this as a barrier\, this Community of Practice asks whether controversy can be a force for good. How could constructive disagreement become a catalyst for better governance\, more meaningful participation and a more sustainable future? \nIn each session we will invite a CoP member to share their work\, and then explore how the different perspectives and knowledges we each hold can help us apply the ideas in the presentation in practice at different levels of scale – e.g. our specific work\, our personal experience\, the wider system. \nJanuary’s session theme is TBC. \nIf you would like to join the invitation list\, or share your work at a future session please contact Peter at gfn@exeter.ac.uk.
